Southern Aviation, home of the Bunbury Flying School

February News

January has been an exciting month for Bunbury Flying School.  We have had so many students and others taking advantage of the holiday season and the beautiful weather that we have had to bring in a spare instructor!  Thanks Adam Price for all your valuable help and expertise.  Our instructors make a great team and their patience and knowledge makes learning to fly a real pleasure.

Scenic flights have also been very popular with holiday makers and Bunbury and its surrounds are beautiful from the air and well worth checking out.  We have also had some interesting charters to conduct too, if you would like to go somewhere let us know, we can take you there.  When was the last time you took the family to Rottnest Island, or to Albany for the day?  Have you watched the dolphins play in the ocean, or seen the caves in the cliffs around Cape Naturaliste?  This is fun, and affordable.  Ask us about our Gift Vouchers too.  We are open seven days a week and we will welcome your phone call or come in to see us.  We will even feed you on the weekends!

January has seen many of our students achieve some very gratifying milestones in their flight training.   It’s a real pleasure to see each of these students succeed with each of these steps, we are so proud of them.

Those who did their FIRST SOLO flight were:  (you should see their grins when they do this)!!

Stuart Vance      -    Tuesday 5 January

Ben (Chippy) Beven    -    Friday 8 January

Bruce Logan     -    Saturday 16 January

Those who passed their GFPT (General Flying Progress Test) flight (this means they can now take passengers flying in the training area):

Andre Speck     -   Sunday 17 January

Peter Evans    -    Wednesday 20 January

Mark Kevill     -    Wednesday 27 January

And those who passed their PPL (Private Pilot’s Licence) flight test  --  TOTAL FREEDOM, take passengers anywhere in Australia!!!

Mitchell Evans    -    Wednesday 13 January

Glenn Harmer    -    Friday 29 January

Also Andrew Thompson, who somehow got missed on the original January list.  Sorry about that Andrew, and thanks for the quality control.

The flying part of training is the real fun stuff, but of course there are written  exams along the way too just to add to the challenge (and keep CASA and RA-Aus happy).  Naturally part of your flight training includes the theory content of working towards your Pilot’s Licence.  The reward at the end of all this challenging study work make it very worth- while.

Passing their (written) PPL exam were:

Ian Clapp    -    Wednesday 13 January

Wayne Fisher    -    Saturday 16 January

Kerry Scott    -    Monday 25 January

In the Recreational category of aviation RA-Aus Human Factors Exam:

Jay Pienaar    -    Saturday 16 January

Congratulations to all these people, keep up the good work.  If you would like to see what it is that keeps all these people coming back call in to visit us.  You can go on an Introductory Flight where you do most of the work and the instructor sitting next to you guides you along the way.  We also provide free tea and coffee to anyone who cares to drop in to say hello, any day of the week.  On weekends we will give you some lunch, no charge!  We are just happy to share with you.  Bunbury airport is an interesting place to sit and relax and just watch for a while too.  There is also a picnic table and bench outside where you can enjoy a picnic as air traffic comes and goes.  We hope to see you soon.
