Overview

This course is designed to give you the knowledge, skills and teaching capability to start conducting ab-initio flying training effectively under supervision.

Flying Training

The course is planned on a minimum total of 45 hours flight time.
Most of the training is conducted on a C152, with the navigation exercises in the C172.

Theoretical Training

The Flight Instructor Rating commences with a period of theory training in Principles and Methods of Instruction (PMI), followed by in-depth lessons on aerodynamics and Aircraft General Knowledge.  The PMI theory exam is undertaken in Perth.

Once the initial theory is complete, the remaining theory takes the form of briefings which are integrated with the flight training.  Each of the ab-initio briefings is practised in a series of steps: workshopping with a Grade 1 instructor, observing a demonstration and finally practising presenting the briefing yourself.  This work culminates in a full set of ab-initio briefings for the client to use in their own instructing.
