AVI50222 Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence – Aeroplane) is a full-time integrated course structured to meet the CASA regulatory requirements. Bunbury Flying School is a Registered Training Organisation (RTO 52396). All training and assessment services for the Diploma are delivered directly by Bunbury Flying School and no third-party providers are used. This nationally recognised, accredited course ensures students receive high-quality training, procedures, and standards that meet industry requirements. All training takes place at Bunbury Flying School located at Bunbury airport.

The course consists of 28 core units and 1 elective unit.

- Block 1 - Theory
  6 Weeks – Begin with Basic Aeronautical Knowledge, followed by 3 Ground Schools and the completion of the associated 3 CASA exams
- Block 2 - Flight Training
  12 Weeks – Begin practical flying, build flight hours, and progress to a recreational flying level of competency
- Block 3 - Theory
  6 Weeks – Complete 4 Ground Schools and the completion of the associated 4 CASA exams
- Block 4 - Commercial Flight Training
  16 Weeks – After successfully completing all 7 CASA exams and the required RTO assessments, students progress into the Commercial training phase. During this stage, students may transition to flying a Cessna 182 or Cessna 206, depending on competency and funding
- 156.4 hours flight training in both Cessna 172 and Cessna 182 or Cessna 206
- 70 hours Pilot in Command flying
- 6 hours Simulator flying
- Ground school subjects include Navigation, Meteorology, Human Factors, Flight Rules and Air Law, Aerodynamics, Aircraft General Knowledge, Operation, Performance and Flight Planning. All theory components are delivered in class through face-to-face instruction.
- Complete 7 CASA Exams
- Theoretical knowledge training is integrated with practical flight training throughout the course.
Graduates who successfully complete the AVI50222 Diploma of Aviation (Commercial Pilot Licence – Aeroplane) and obtain their CASA Commercial Pilot Licence are qualified to begin their careers as professional pilots.

For 2026, the VET Student Loan limit for the Diploma of Aviation course is $96,467. Our 2026 course fee is $97,500 requiring a self funded gap payment of $1033.

Completion of WACE or equivalent, or achieve ACSF Exit Level 3 in reading and numeracy from our LLN Robot Assessment Tool

Application Process

Starting your journey toward becoming a commercial pilot is an exciting step, and our application process is designed to make it as clear and supportive as possible.

Submit application through our website. Once submitted you will receive a confirmation email.
- Please provide copies of Identification (citizenship, passport or birth certificate),
- WACE certificate and any other relevant qualifications.
- School reports are desirable.
- Copy of logbook records if applicable
As part of our application process, students may be required to undertake a Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment. Following the outcome of this, students will take part in an information session and interview conducted with our Head of Operations.
- Create a myCASA account and obtain an Aviation Reference Number (ARN). Login onto the CASA website for more information. Provide Bunbury Flying School with ARN number once completed.
- Find Designated Aviation Medical Examiner (DAME) through the CASA website and book in a Class 1 Medical examination.
Successful applicants will review a letter of offer. Once the offer is accepted, applicants will be formally enrolled into the course for commencement.
